Couldn't resist adding this picture down the Lauterbrunnen valley taken by my daughter Vicky (photographer extrordinaire) from the train up to Wengen. Is there another marathon in the world with such an incredible setting?
Is there another one more beautiful?? Zermatt could be a contender but the numbers of people doing it are less than Jungfrau. They handed out flyers for it at the expo in Interlaken and it looks pretty nice too. So similar setting but not the same atmosphere. well done on the marathon - photos look fantastic. Best of luck with the OMM. Is there many different classes in that ?? I was trying to figure out which one was the easiest but they all look tough. Grainne
Hi Grainne. Thanks for the comment. I fancied a go at Zermatt next year but it clashes with my 50th birthday party (which should have been the week before if my nephew hadn't decided to get married on my 50th birthday!). It'll have to wait until 2009 now. There are several classes in the OMM: Elite (two consecutive marathon length runs), A, B, C, Long Score, Med Score, Short Score. Their toughness is inversely proportional to your navigation skills. I like them because, being navigation events, the terrain gets etched on your memory from studying the map so much. Mick
They ran a similar one in the North last week - the Mournes mountain marathon - I renamed bog marathon becuase I spent both days tramping through bog - thats down to route choice I guess. 50th birthday party and a wedding, sounds like it will be a busy day. well best of luck with the OMM grainne
